Probably the topic of greatest relevance registered in the region during the last years has been that of interculturality. It is a challenge to learn to be citizens when faced with different visions, and to know about and accept the rights of human groups that question us. This means not only relating with cultures in the abstract sense but also collectives with profound histories, with forms of organization and life that are current and in force. In intercultural relations we recognize ourselves as citizens that live in dialogue and in confrontation with collective subjects.

But how does one create a process that is not about teaching indigenous peoples but instead about a mutual learning within our societies, which live in situations of profound asymmetries? With respect to this question, we can ask ourselves, for example, if we have collectively assimilated the richness of intercultural democracy. We are living moments of crisis and conflict in our countries that prevent us from viewing these issues as a step forward, when we defend ourselves from collectives that seek to impose their rights upon us. We are at a juncture of confrontation, but this forms part of this difficult step forward towards an intercultural society. With regard to these issues, we do not have a clear idea of what will happen tomorrow but instead are faced with a panorama of uncertainty, tensions, difficulties and great challenges.
